:bulletblack: WARNING :bulletblack:
This comic, along with any future sequels, is set in an alternate universe where Amon is who he said he was in the first place. Where Amon is simply... Amon. It's a variant I would like to keep exploring.

So shortly after I'd finished An Exchange (citizen17.deviantart.com/galle…, I'd already started drawing up the storyboard for a sequel. Then I saw episode 10, where Asami sees Mako sleeping by Korra's bedside and thought to myself: "Well lookee here, I'm not too far off" and decided to go ahead and finish it.
Then of course the season finale happened and offended me to tears, but I digress.
My disappointment with the story's resolution aside, I thought the scene were Asami discovers Mako by Korra's bedside was weak and could have been more original. It was like something out of a soap opera (the classic walk-in-on-a-passionate-kiss type of thing), and I wasn't quite satisfied with it. So I thought I'd make something a little different, like an alternate scene that could work with the other comic I did.
Another thing I was unhappy with was how sloppily the conflict between Asami and her father was handled. Asami's personal struggle with going against her father is actually much more compelling than her romantic woes. I mean, how did it make her feel? Wouldn't she have had qualms about betraying her father, who raised her and loved her for all those years? Feeling as strongly as she did about the Equalists being wrong, how did she face the inner struggle of fighting against her father and seeing him defend such an evil position? It just didn't make sense to me that she'd end the whole deal with: "You're a terrible father." I really wanted to give her moral torment a little more justice.
Oh, and I wanted to draw a really creepy Amon, too. :la:

Although technically this is a nightmare and Asami's perception of Amon could be false, I prefer to place this within the context of Amon being the scarred revolutionary he said he was.
I've got more comics planned (hopefully they will all transfer from my mind to reality), all designed to explore this alternate version of the story.
Also, I'm going to drop Asami for a while (the crackship innuendos were kind of a creepy joke I was making, though they weren't entirely without purpose -- there are countless examples throughout history of revolutionary leaders or dictators who literally seduced their people) and concentrate on Amon.
I intend to look at his back story, his psychology, stuff like that. In other words, I want to work with the Amon I had hoped for and was so brutally denied. :XD:

So these are dedicated to all you fellow Amon fans who were disappointed with how Amon's persona was destroyed and abruptly replaced. Do not get me wrong, I actually love Noatak (he's absolutely GORGEOUS. D: ), but I have a hard time associating him with Amon. I think Amon's story could have been so much more mystical, so much darker and creepier... And that's what I want to keep on investigating (though I'm pretty sure Mike and Bryan would have done a far better job than me if they'd taken that route!).

Art-wise, don't even ask me how long this took. I colour at the pace of a turtle that's wearing a 1-ton bulletproof vest and a bowling ball in its mouth. Wait what?
The format I chose is supposed to be reminiscent of a film. I could have opted for more varied panel shapes, but I really do want that movie feel. And I don't have the talent to make crazy, amazing layouts, so this is ideal for me. ;)

EDIT: ZOMG I FORGOT TO ADD BLOOD ON THE LAST MASK -- GAHHH.

I totally agree about Asami's struggle. I think the choice itself was easy enough to make--her conscience is strong enough that she knew what to fight for--but they never showed her experiencing much pain/anxiety/interior conflict afterwards. What do you think of how Asami and Hiroshi interacted in Book 4?
